BAKOTA

Bakota means "Desired Land". A unique nature reserve in the Podilsky Tovtry National Park, not far from the town of Kamianets-Podilskyi, on the site of a flooded village.

A place where you can rest your soul and body, where in the morning - the most gentle dawns, and in the evening - fantastic sunsets, which you admire in the company of stone figures that have stood here for thousands of years. This is a place completely unlike any other, where your own soul whispers to you.

Bakota Bay
One of the oldest men's monasteries of Ukraine is located here - Bakota rock-cave monastery, which attracts numerous streams of pilgrims. And among the adherents of esotericism and other non-traditional religions, Bakota is known as a unique Place of Power with extraordinary energy.

Until 1981, there was a village here, which gave the name to the entire territory, but in connection with the construction of the Dniester hydroelectric plant, the Bakota village, together with many other villages of the Dniester basin went under water, and now a majestic bay formed by the waters of the Dniester has spilled out in its place.

Among Ukrainian travelers, there are not those who do not know about Bakota. And among those who have visited here at least once, there are none who do not dream of returning here.

HISTORY
It was once a large city, the capital of Dniester Ponizy - in the 12th century. about 2.5 thousand people lived here.

The city was quite developed and strategically very important, because it was located on the border, first of Kievan Rus, and later of the Galician and Galician-Volyn principalities, and all trade routes passed through it from the East to Europe. It was a large trading port on the Dniester.
The first written mention of the city of Bakota dates back to 1240. According to the chronicles, people always lived here in large numbers and in a friendly manner, distinguished by their freedom-loving character and at the same time gentleness and kindness.

There were a lot of wars in Bakota. At one time, Mongol-Tatars, Poles, Lithuanians, and Moldovans fought for possession of the "desired land". But even under the oppression of the invaders, Bakota preserved its will to freedom and cultural identity.
